Bishop of the Diocese of the Ascension

Right Reverend Derek Jones

The Right Reverend Derek S. Jones is the Bishop for the Diocese of the Ascension and was the founding priest of Coventry Anglican Church in Alabaster, Alabama, USA...

...and Bishop Jones brings the heart, education and experience needed to help churches and ministers understand worship in a true ancient-future model. Bishop Jones is the endorsing official for chaplains serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, the Veteran's Administration, and vocational chaplains (Police, Fire, Hospital, Prison, and University) requiring formal endorsement for the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches (CEEC). By cooperative agreement, Bishop Jones also endorses all Chaplians serving in the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) , for one diocese of the Anglican Province in America (APA), and for a handfull of Chaplains for the Anglican Mission in America (AMiA).

The Diocese of the Ascension was orignally formed in 2005. It has been under Bishop Jones' oversight since its inception. Consecrated to the Episcopate in January 2007, Bishop Jones already had churches and missions in Canada, Africa and the United States. However, working with Chaplains is "close to his heart" and in late 2007, all non-chaplain related ministries were seeded to other bishops within the Communion.

All CEEC vocational Chaplains are required to receive their endorsement from Bishop Jones. For more information, contact Bishop Jones
